Trying to show my youngest one how to make something ordinary look interesting with light we took a look at Edward Weston’s pepper no 30.
He didn’t even recognize it as a pepper. Of course you can’t blame the kid, Monsanto and Co have made sure that all peppers arriving on super market shelves look pretty and picture perfect and taste like, well nothing? Still it served us as a perfect example demonstrating how something ordinary could be made to look interesting by isolating it and by adding some good lightning.
So we grabbed a dusty conch shell and tried out luck in BW. Clearly there is room to improve but the initial attempts were not bad at all and he got a kick out of seeing the results having opinions on corrections, toning and the like.
